CAN I GROW A CLIMBING ROSE IN A POT?

INTRODUCTION | THE RIGHT ROSES

At The Right Roses, we support two important causes:

  1. The Best Rose Experience’.
  2. Together We Protect This Planet’.

The team at The Right Roses firmly believes that, with the support from all members, collectively we can make a big difference. Moreover, sharing your own experience and stories will be such an important way to enrich the resources for rose-lovers all over the world, including YOU.

One of the most frequent questions we have received so far is ‘can I grow this or that climbing rose in a pot?’. That is a big question and our answer always is ‘it depends’. And, we really think that is not a perfect answer, although it is true. The performance of a rose depends on many factors.

We would like to provide a more comprehensive answer to that question by publishing the experiences of gardeners around the world. If you have a climbing rose in pot, please make sure to share your rose experience with us by writing to RightRosesCom@gmail.com. Millions of gardeners would highly appreciate your kindness.

This time, we would like to share with you a story from California, USA about rose ‘Claire Austin’ in pot. And, she looks absolutely stunning with that wonderful light-yellow shade. The rose is still a baby. We would be very interested in her growth in the future. Hopefully, penelopelow will keep sharing her development with us.

We hope that this story can be a source of inspiration to many gardeners. We highly appreciate penelopelow’s contribution. And, please do not forget to read The Right Roses review of rose ‘Claire Austin’.

We look forward to many other stories around the world. Please send your rose experience to RightRosesCom@gmail.com.

‘MY FAVORITE ROSES’ SERIES | ROSE ‘CLAIRE AUSTIN’ | PENELOPELOW

Name of the Rose: Claire Austin

Breeder: David Austin 2007

Country: Northern California, USA

Zone: 9B

Number of hours of direct sunlight in the summer: 6 hours of afternoon sun

Spray or not: NO SPRAY with very healthy leaves and blooms, no sign of thrips

How long have you planted this rose in your garden? 3 months

Ground or pot: In pot

I moved her out of full scorching sun, and Claire has been in a large pot under an olive tree. She has not been sprayed and seems very healthy. I got Lady Gardener at the same time and LG was in more exposed spot. LG was mauled and mutilated by thrips munching on her. I just picked the damaged buds off. Claire (different spot) seems to have escaped the thrip infestation entirely. All her blooms have been perfectly formed so far, which is unusual for first year bare root. She seems remarkably resilient and healthy, and I seem to have found her happy spot.
